The Working American Bulldog
The working american bulldog is not a common site today, although many kennels will have a picture demonstrating it's past uses.
It is a good fight dog and during the Middle Ages when the sport of bating was popular this dog was the best one to fight a bear, lion, monkey, badger and rats. It is quite normal that during these fights only the strongest dogs won and survived.

The name of the dog came from the main function that the dog used to fulfill; it was to attack the bull. It was a furious animal when attacking the bull. At first it attacked swiftly and got hold of the bull's eye, tongue or mouth or lip and hold it notwithstanding the enormous efforts of the animal that tried to get free off the dog.
